Situated in DLF Place Mall, Saket, “TC” is a cornerstone of India’s live music scene. Beyond hosting local blues-rock acts, it has welcomed global names like the Gypsy Kings. TC’s pub fare—a blend of Tex-Mex and Chinese—is a personal favorite, especially after a performance. With its cozy, living-room-like atmosphere, every show feels like an intimate gathering among friends, no matter the crowd size.

Opus, Bengaluru
I once performed at Opus during an instrumental-only event called “Axetortion,” alongside a friend from Mumbai, delivering high-energy guitar versions of tracks like Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean. Known for its relaxed, lounge-style decor, Opus offers both indoor and outdoor spaces. The venue’s acoustics are crisp and invigorating, making it a favorite among Bengaluru’s music lovers.

With its stellar sound quality, excellent food and beverage offerings, and top-notch live performances, blueFROG could easily top this list. Performing here is always a pleasure, but its overly commercial vibe places it at number four. The lack of a personal touch and occasional genre mismatches—like an EDM DJ following a blues set—can feel jarring. Still, blueFROG’s professionalism ensures it will remain a staple for years to come.

Cheers Crossroads, Guwahati, and Club Tango, Police Bazaar, Shillong
The Northeast is home to some of India’s best blues-rock talent, and these venues shine despite modest decor, stage setups, or menus. The owners’ passion for music creates a welcoming atmosphere. If you’re in Meghalaya, catching a band like Soulmate on a Thursday or Friday night is a must. Just check the schedule to avoid heavy metal nights unless that’s your scene!

Shisha Jazz Cafe, Pune
Less a typical pub and more an Irani-style cafe, Shisha Jazz Cafe in Koregaon Park serves Iranian breakfast by day and smooth jazz by night. Its garden-like ambiance gives off a Santana-esque vibe. Though I’ve yet to perform here, the venue’s cool music and laid-back crowd make it a standout spot.

Three Wise Monkeys, Mumbai
Tucked inside the Hotel Unicontinental in Khar, this dive bar draws students and live music enthusiasts. It feels like a throwback to Mumbai’s Raspberry Rhinoceros in Juhu, a venue from my youth where I watched rock classics performed live and honed my guitar skills by observing seasoned musicians.

SinQ, Goa
Located within the SinQ party hotel, this club occasionally transforms into a live music venue. Its diverse lineup spans genres, and the audience is always open to new sounds. Being in Goa, the vibe is inherently festive, ensuring everyone’s there for a great time.
